Tony Bourdain, the author of Kitchen Confidential, writes up his experience in Beirut on Salon. On LiveJournal a woman named Cedarseed describes life in Beirut right now. Both Bourdain’s piece and Cedardseed’s journal are worth reading.

There is a beautiful red oak tree in my coop complex.
I went to the Bronx Zoo a while ago with Lisa and her kids. One of the best exhibits we visited was the butterfly garden. It generally costs extra to enter, but since I give the WCS a bunch of money it was free.
The storms in Indianapolis are pretty fantastic. I mentioned this to the front desk at the hotel I was in. They looked at me like I was crazy. It turns out that heavy storms in the midwest are linked to tornados. How would a guy from the Northeast know about these things?
